Renowned Canadian heart surgeon joins University Hospitals

Rakesh Arora, MD, PhD, joined Cleveland-based University Hospitals at its Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, the health system said Sept. 29.

Dr. Arora, who is from Canada, joined as the institute’s director of perioperative and cardiac critical care and its cardiac surgery division research director. He previously served for seven years at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Cardiac Sciences Program as the medical director of intensive care cardiac services, and for five years as the section head and regional lead for cardiac surgery.

He pioneered the Canadian Cardiovascular Critical Care Society in 2009, the health system said.
