Pennsylvania governor-elect nominates Dr. Debra Bogen for secretary of health

Debra Bogen, MD, has been nominated as Pennsylvania's secretary of health by Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Jan. 12.

Dr. Bogen currently serves as the head of the Allegheny County Health Department. She filled this position in early 2020, eventually leading the county's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and previously taught as a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Bogen was one of five nominees Mr. Shapiro named for his cabinet Jan. 11. Also nominated was anesthesiologist Val Arkoosh, MD, for secretary of human services. Dr. Arkoosh currently chairs the Montgomery County board of commissioners.
