Highest-earning practice settings for nurse practitioners

Nurse practitioners working in the hospital inpatient setting earned the highest wages in 2021 at $126,000 on average, according to Medscape’s 2022 APRN Compensation Report.

Hospital inpatient wages for nurse practitioners have risen from $125,000 in 2020 and $122,000 in 2019. 

Nurses working in hospital outpatient settings earned $123,000 in 2021, $117,000 in 2020 and $115,000 in 2019. 

Nurses in non-hospital-based medical offices and urgent care clinics earned $119,000 in 2021, $114,000 in 2020 and $110,000 in 2019.
