Two hundred fifty-three of the 455 eligible residents and fellows voted in favor of organizing a bargaining unit. They will be represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents, which also represents organizing physicians from Children’s National Hospital, also in D.C.
The campaign to organize first began in the fall, with 67 percent of residents and fellows signing authorization cards to be represented by CIR. The bargaining unit plans to negotiate for better benefits, higher wages and increased transparency from the hospital system, the report said.
