Serving as interim chair since January 2023 and acting chair for five months prior, he has significantly expanded the stroke program and neurology coverage within the Miami-based Jackson Health System, now spanning three hospitals with plans for a fourth.
A faculty member since 1997, Dr. Romano has been pivotal in advancing the department’s clinical and research capabilities. His leadership has boosted the department’s U.S. News & World Report ranking to 20th and increased NIH funding to over $15 million in 2023. Dr. Romano’s vision aims to further enhance the department’s reputation and capabilities, striving for continued excellence in patient care, research and education.
