Dell Medical School names Dr. George Arnaoutakis chief of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery

George Arnaoutakis, MD, has been named the first chief of the cardiovascular and thoracic surgery division of Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. He began his duties Jan. 9, according to a Jan. 23 report from The Daily Texan.

Dr. Arnaoutakis joins Dell Medical School from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, where he served as an associate professor. He practices as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with a focus on aortic and vascular heart disease, the report said.

Dell Medical School first opened its cardiovascular and thoracic surgery division three years ago as a counterpart to the school’s pediatric congenital heart program. As chief, Dr. Arnaoutakis will lead the new division and serve as physician executive of adult cardiovascular and thoracic surgery for Ascension Texas in Austin.
