Cedars-Sinai surgeon-in-chief appointed to academic leadership post

Bruce Gewertz, MD, has been named vice dean of clinical development and faculty affairs at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He will take on this role in addition to his current position as surgeon-in-chief for the medical center.

Dr. Gewertz has been with Cedars-Sinai since 2006 after spending 25 years on the faculty at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, according to an email shared March 8 with Becker's.

Since joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Gewertz has served in a variety of roles, including vice president of interventional services and the H & S Nichols Distinguished Chair in Surgery. He has also led a $4 million institutional research project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense on surgical performance and human performance.

In his new role, Dr. Gewertz will collaborate with department chairs to increase program growth across the health system's four hospitals and various affiliated physician networks around the Los Angeles area.
