Castle Connolly has released its 2023 "Exceptional Women in Medicine" list, which honors physicians across the United States who demonstrate leadership, expertise and dedication in their respective specialties.
This year's list recognized over 8,400 physicians across 77 specialties, according to a March 21 news release. The recipients were chosen through a selection process that includes peer nominations in addition to research and evaluation by the Castle Connolly research team.
The recipients were required to meet the criteria to be selected as a Castle Connolly "Top Doctor," as well as having additional qualifications, including contributions to healthcare such as volunteer work, awards and honors, contributions to research and innovations in their specialty.
Forty-three percent of first-time Castle Connolly "Top Doctors" in 2023 were women, with over 19,000 female physicians making the list. This increased the representation of women on the list by 13 percent compared to 2022, the release said.
