California county hires Dr. Lindsey Yourman as 1st chief geriatric officer

San Diego County has appointed Lindsey Yourman, MD, a member of the county's Health and Human Services Agency, as its first chief geriatric officer, according to an Oct. 28 report from the Times of San Diego.

Dr. Yourman will focus on the well-being of the county's older and aging adult population, which is expected to grow by 40 percent in the next eight years.

Dr. Yourman has spent 16 years in health advocacy, working on improving care systems for all, including older adults.

She most recently worked at the University of California San Diego as a primary care geriatrician.

"I see the creation of the county's chief geriatric officer position as a victory for older adults and for us all as we age in San Diego County," Dr. Yourman told the Times. "For me, personally, it means the opportunity to apply my life's passion, the soul and science of geriatric medicine, to support the health, dignity and connectedness of all of us as we age."
