Here are five physicians making recent headlines, as reported by Becker’s:
1. Wilmington, Del.-based Nemours Children’s Health tapped Mark Twite, MD, as chief of cardiac anesthesia and co-director of Nemours Children’s Cardiac Center in Delaware Valley. In the role, Dr. Twite will lead cardiac anesthesia services and oversee the program at Nemours. He will also be in charge of strategic direction at the center.
2. William Husel, MD, a former Ohio physician who was fired and later acquitted of murder charges in the deaths of 14 patients, lost a defamation lawsuit against Columbus-based Mount Carmel Health System.
3. In May, Lawrence Kim, MD, began his term as the 120th president of the American Gastroenterological Association Institute. A private practice partner based in Denver, Dr. Kim has spent years prioritizing diversity in gastroenterology and spearheading the creation of a joint venture in gastrointestinal pathology, helping to establish South Denver Gastroenterology as one of the founding groups of the Digestive Health Physicians Association, the first organization focused on advocacy for independent gastroenterology practices.
4. Michael Lucchesi, MD, former emergency medicine chair and chief medical officer at New York City-based SUNY Downstate, pleaded guilty to stealing about $1.44 million by using a business credit card for personal expenses.
5. The department of pediatrics at UAB Medicine appointed Mark Law, MD, as division director of pediatric cardiology. Dr. Law has authored or co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, as well as mentoring more than 20 post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty.
