Income uncertainty is what self-employed physicians like least about their job, according to Medscape’s Self-Employed Physicians Report published  Nov. 11.

Medscape surveyed 1,571 physicians between March 19 and June 3, of those physicians, 748 were self-employed.

Here’s what self-employed physicians like least about their job:

  • Income uncertainty: 38%
  • Running a business: 26%
  • Managing staff (hiring, firing, scheduling): 23% 
  • Dealing with more government regulations: 20%
  • Work-life balance issues: 20%
  • Obtaining malpractice coverage: 15%
  • Smaller staff and resources: 10%
  • Marketing and advertising: 7%
  • Other: 5%
  • Nothing: 5%
