Salaries and wages remain the largest operating expense for private practice physicians, according to a recent survey from healthcare software company Tebra, published Jan. 30.

Tebra surveyed 122 small private practice owners to identify their biggest cost drivers and where they are finding financial success.

Here’s how private practices are spending their money:

  • Provider salaries and wages – 48%
  • Staff wages – 21%
  • Office space – 20%
  • Accounting – 5%
  • Billing – 2%
  • Equipment – 2%
  • Supplies – 2%
