May Lau, MD, a physician specializing in adolescent medicine, has chosen to surrender her Texas medical license and move her practice to Oregon after being sued by Attorney General Ken Paxton over allegations that she illegally provided gender-affirming care to minors, Straight Arrow News reported Oct. 27.

Mr. Paxton initially brought the allegations against Dr. Lau, who practiced at Dallas-based UT Southwestern Medical Center, in October 2024. The case was the first of its kind in the U.S. after Texas and 25 other states banned forms of gender-affirming care for minors in 2023.

He alleged that Dr. Lau used “false diagnoses and billing codes” to conceal “unlawful prescriptions” to 21 minor patients between October 2023 and August 2024.

According to the report, Dr. Lau has said that the charges are political and they have been driven by ideology over evidence, rejecting Mr. Paxton’s accusations of wrongdoing.
