46% of independent physicians saw pay cut in 2022

Forty-six percent of independent physicians saw income reduction in 2022, compared to 23 percent of employed physicians, according to the Physicians Foundation’s “2022 Survey of America’s Physicians,” released Nov. 15.

The Physicians Foundation surveyed 1,501 physicians from Sept. 28 to Oct. 7. 

Here are the physicians who experienced an income reduction in 2022:

  • Employed physicians: 23 percent
  • Independent physicians: 46 percent
  • Physicians 45 or younger: 20 percent 
  • Physicians 46 or older: 36 percent 
  • Suburban physicians: 32 percent 
  • Urban physicians: 23 percent
