Here is what ASCs need to know:
1. After using physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners from Envision for years, Kenosha, Wis.-based Froedtert South will switch to staffing firm Vituity, which will retain Envision’s local providers.
2. The switch comes after Envision’s inability to resolve a legal battle with UnitedHealthcare, a major insurer in Kenosha County, CEO Ric Schmidt told the Milwaukee Business Journal.
3. On May 14, Envision filed for bankruptcy after battling high labor costs and legal disputes. Envision has about $7 billion of debt outstanding, missed a March 31 quarterly reporting deadline and skipped an April interest payment.
4. Envision has entered into a restructuring support agreement with stakeholders supported by more than 60 percent of the company’s $7.7 billion in debt obligations. It plans to continue to provide patient care for its client health systems during the Chapter 11 case.
5. Envision began supplying physicians to Froedtert Health hospitals after it acquired Infinity HealthCare, a Milwaukee-based physician group, in 2017. A spokesperson for Milwaukee-based Froedtert Health, a minority owner of Froedtert South, said the system no longer uses Envision.
