Although the average annual salary among registered nurses in the U.S. is $80,359, that figure varies greatly depending on which state one practices in, according to career website ZipRecruiter.

The site, updated Sept. 11, compiles salary data from both employer job postings and third-party data sources.

Registered nurses earn $103,701 in Washington, the highest-paying state, while those in Arkansas, the lowest-paying state, earn an average of $67,838.

Here are the 10 highest-paying states for registered nurses, along with the average annual salaries:
