LD 937, also known as the “Resolve, to Establish the Commission Regarding Foreign-trained Physicians Living in Maine” bill, aims to create a commission that would examine the barriers those who were trained as physicians in other countries face when they want to practice in Maine.
The commission, which will be made up of educational leaders, legislators and immigrants, will dive into these barriers, which include language barriers, paperwork and work permits that could prevent immigrants from practicing medicine for up to two years.
LD 937 received a unanimous “out to pass, as amended” vote from the Committee on Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services and was carried over to the state legislature March 30.
