Independent physicians are more likely to receive their pay from salary than a physician working in a hospital-owned practice, according to the American Medical Association's latest "Physician Practice Benchmark Survey."
The latest survey, which was released in October, surveyed about 3,500 physicians and tracked changes in practices, salary and more between 2012 and 2020. Read more about the methodology here.
Here are four stats to know:
1. Of the private practice physicians surveyed, 27.7 percent received their compensation from salary.
2. Of the physicians in hospital-owned practices surveyed, 19.9 percent received their compensation from salary.
3. Of the private practice physicians surveyed, 18.5 percent received more than half but not all of their compensation from salary but no bonus.
4. Of the physicians in hospital-owned practices surveyed, 15.3 percent received more than half but not all of their compensation from salary along with a bonus.
