Fifty-four percent of physicians believe that better communication and rapport with patients can help discourage malpractice lawsuits, according to Medscape’s “Physicians and Malpractice Report 2023.”
The report included 3,037 physicians across 29 specialties.
Here are the steps physicians think could discourage malpractice lawsuits:
Better communication and rapport with patients: 54%
Have medical panel screen for merit: 49%
Make plaintiff responsible for all attorney fees if they lose: 43%
Cap noneconomic damages: 42%
Ban lawyers from taking malpractice cases on contingency: 27%
Reduce rates of physician medical errors: 25%
Try cases before health courts: 20%
