Here is the average annual total compensation of physicians in nine regions of the U.S., ranked from highest to lowest:
1. West North Central (Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota): $404,000
2. East South Central (Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee): $375,000
3. East North Central (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin): $367,000
4. West (Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming): $363,000
5. South Atlantic (Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia): $362,000
6. West South Central (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas): $361,000
7. Pacific (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington): $357,000
8. New England (Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont): $355,000
9. Mid-Atlantic (Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania): $351,000
