Under the legislation, physician assistants holding licenses in one “compact” state will be eligible to apply for “compact privilege” in other compact states, according to a July 21 news release from the American Academy of Physician Associates.
However, the compact will only become active after seven states adopt the compact language through legislation, with Utah being the first state to do so. PA compact legislation has also been introduced but has yet to be adopted in Minnesota, Ohio, Rhode Island and Texas, the release said.
