Medscape surveyed 2,618 advanced practice registered nurses between May 2 and July 26. 

Here’s how APRN earnings stack up: 

Nurse practitioner:

Total: $118,000

Base compensation: $111,000

Clinical nurse specialists:

Total: $114,000

Base compensation: $107,000

Certified registered nurse anesthetists:

Total: $217,000

Base compensation: $197,000

Nurse midwives:

Total: $120,000

Base compensation: $111,000

Compensation among salaried APRNs:

NP: $120,000

CNS: $117,000

CRNA: $225,000

NM: $120,000

Change in income from 2020 to 2021:

Increase:

NP: 60 percent

CNS: 59 percent

CRNA: 66 percent

NM: 52 percent

Remain the same:

NP: 29 percent

CNS: 33 percent

CRNA: 26 percent

NM: 38 percent

Decrease:

NP: 11 percent
