Walgreens chief medical officer steps down after job cuts

Kevin Ban, MD, has stepped down as chief medical officer of Walgreens Boots Alliance, the company's health services division, Bloomberg reported Nov. 9.

The exit comes after the company announced plans to lay off 5% of its staff, or 267 employees, last week. In May, Walgreens laid off 10% of its workforce. The company said it is aiming to cut costs by $1 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Dr. Ban, who was hired in 2020, vacated his role Nov. 10, according to the publication. Sashi Moodley, MD, who served as the company's chief clinical officer, was named as his successor.
