Vanderbilt Medical Center names Dr. Allan Pickens chair of thoracic surgery

Allan Pickens, MD, has been appointed professor and chair of the department of thoracic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Pickens joins Vanderbilt from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, according to a Feb. 2 report from Vanderbilt. While there, he served as director of thoracic oncology, program director for cardiothoracic surgery and medical director of perioperative services for Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Dr. Pickens also has experience as director of minimally invasive thoracic surgery for Emory, thoracic surgery workforce director for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and as a procurement surgeon for the Alabama Organ Center in Birmingham.
