Dr. Varn is also the head of PinnacleCare, which was acquired by Sun Life in 2021 and provides personal care advisors to help patients access doctors, treatments and diagnoses, according to an April 5 news release.
Dr. Vern treated patients for 15 years as an emergency medicine physician at Northern Virginia healthcare system Inova before joining PinnacleCare in 2005. He went on to serve as chief medical officer of PinnacleCare before being named CEO.
In his new role, Dr. Varn will provide clinical leadership to the roughly 120 health professionals across Sun Life. He will also develop a clinical council to grow clinical strategies and provide insights on policies and initiatives on healthcare issues.
