Lisa Nee, MD, an interventional cardiologist whose campaign describes her as a whistleblower over patient care failures at a veterans hospital, has entered the 2027 Chicago mayoral race, NBC 5 reported July 7.
Dr. Nee began her career as a nurse before training as an interventional cardiologist who treated complex and high-risk heart conditions, according to her campaign biography, as reported by WTTW. While working at Edward Hines (Ill.) Jr. VA Hospital, she said she raised concerns about patient care failures that put veterans at risk.
After leaving clinical practice, Dr. Nee earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and now works as a healthcare and public policy advisor, according to WTTW News.
“I’m not running because it’s the next step in my career,” Dr. Nee said in a statement. “I’m running because I’ve spent my life seeing what happens when systems fail people — and I’m done accepting it.”
In a statement announcing her campaign, Dr. Nee said she is running for a Chicago where “affordability is a reality, not a talking point,” where personal connections aren’t needed to get basic things done, and where honesty isn’t treated as a liability.
