Here are eight updates on unionization efforts and other labor organizing among clinicians and hospitals and health systems in July, as reported by Becker’s:
1. More than 2,200 nurses and healthcare workers at four hospitals operated by Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare plan to strike in September across Illinois, California and Nevada.
2. Workers at Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital issued a formal strike notice with a target strike date of Sept. 11, SEIU District 1199 said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
3. Primary care physicians, physician associates and nurse practitioners at Corvallis, Ore.-based Samaritan Health Services‘ Samaritan Medical Group petitioned for a union election with Northwest Medicine United, an AFT Healthcare affiliate.
4. Primary care physicians and advanced practice providers at Banner Medical Group, part of Phoenix-based Banner Health, are voting on whether to join the Union of American Physicians and Dentists, according to National Labor Relations Board filings.
5. Members of the Montana Nurses Association Local 5 voted to reject a proposed collective bargaining agreement covering registered nurses at St. James Hospital in Butte, Mont.
6. The National Labor Relations Board on Aug. 4 revived a petition to remove the union representing about 563 nurses at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, reversing the decision of a regional director who had blocked it.
7. Service and technical workers at Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Mont., part of Renton, Wash.-based Providence, voted 446-102 on Aug. 5 to be represented by SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, CBS affiliate KPAX reported.
8. About 950 members of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College ended a five-day strike Aug. 1 without a new contract in place. The strike was the bargaining unit’s first since 2004.
