The report also found male physicians earned nearly $110,000 more than their female counterparts, revealing a 26 percent gender pay gap. This gap could be contributing to a higher burnout rate among female physicians, with 92 percent reporting overwork, compared to 83 percent of men.
The report was based on self-reported compensation data from 190,000 physicians in the US over the last six years, including 31,000 full-time physicians over the last year. The data was collected by Doximity, a digital platform for US medical providers.
