Jan Carney, MD, has been named president of the American College of Physicians. Her term began at the conclusion of the organization’s annual Internal Medicine Meeting on April 18, 2026.
According to an April 18 news release, Dr. Carney serves as associate dean for public health and health policy, professor of medicine, and chief of the division of public health in the department of medicine at the Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine.
The American College of Physicians is a national organization of internal medicine physicians specializing in adult care, with more than 163,000 internal medicine physicians, subspecialists, and medical students across more than 172 countries, according to an April 18 press release. It is the largest medical-specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States.
Dr. Carney became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1998 and was elected to Mastership in 2019. She has served on the organization’s Board of Regents since 2021.
