AMA awards Dr. Rahul Gupta for government service

Dr. Rahul Gupta has been presented with the American Medical Association’s award for outstanding government service.

Dr. Gupta is the first physician to serve as director of national drug control policy and serves as the senior most drug policy adviser to President Joe Biden as leader of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, according to a Feb. 15 release from the AMA.

The AMA has awarded Dr. Gupta for his work to emphasize harm reduction and evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders. He has practiced primary care for 25 years and previously served as the West Virginia health commissioner under two governors.
