The workplace measures that can aid hospitalist burnout

Increasing compensation and making work schedules more flexible were tied for the top workplace measures to help with hospitalists’ burnout, according to Medscape’s “Hospitalist Burnout & Depression Report 2024.”

The report is based on a survey of 9,226 respondents from more than 29 specialities. 

Here are the workplace measures hospitalists reported would help most with burnout:

Increase compensation: 48%

Make work schedules more flexible: 48%

Add support staff: 47%

Lighten patient loads: 40%

More respect from administrators/employers, colleagues, staff: 40%

Increase physician control/autonomy: 36%

Make counseling available/check in with physicians: 11%

Offer different jobs: 4%

Other: 5%
