William Gray, 50, and his co-conspirators accessed private patient information to submit claims to payers for COVID-19 tests that were never performed, according to a Nov. 30 news release from the Justice Department. The payers included Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Aetna, Humana and Molina Healthcare.

The purported labs, which were shell entities that never existed, submitted roughly $30 million in claims and received more than $7 million in reimbursements for the fake tests, the release said.
