The 10 least expensive urban areas for physicians

Decatur, Ill., is the urban area with the lowest cost of living, according to a Nov. 21 report from the Council for Community and Economic Research.

The Cost of Living Index, which analyzes 269 urban areas and is published quarterly, measures the cost of consumer goods and services in different regions — including housing, utilities, grocery items, transportation, healthcare, and goods and services. 

Here are the 10 least expensive urban areas: 

1. Decatur, Ill.

2. Harlingen, Texas

3. McAllen, Texas

4. Ponca City, Okla.

5. Augusta-Aiken Ga.-S.C.

6. Anniston-Calhoun County, Ala.

6. Florence, Ala.

6. Ashland, Ohio

9. Conway, Ark.

9. Tupelo, Miss.
