Gaining clinical knowledge and experience is the most rewarding part of medical residency, according to Medscape’s “Residents Lifestyle & Happiness Report 2023.”

The report included 1,000 respondents across 29 specialities. 

Here is what residents cited as the most rewarding aspects of residency:

Gratitude from/relationship with patients: 65%

Relationships with other residents: 59%

Potential for being paid well as a doctor: 43%
