RN income by practice setting

Hospital inpatient care RNs make more than RNs in other practice settings, according to Medscape’s “RN/LPN Compensation Report 2023.”

The report, published Sept. 29, included 3,076 RNs who practice in the U.S. Their responses were collected between April 20 to June 12. 

Here are RNs’ hourly income by practice setting in 2023: 

Hospital inpatient care: $93

Hospital-based outpatient setting or clinic: $86

Public/community health setting: $76

Non-hospital-based medical office/urgent care clinic: $81

School/college health services: $68
