Mr. Mendez was charged in September for his role in a scheme to defraud Medicaid by practicing with a suspended license.
He previously served as a physician assistant at CCI Therapy Counseling Centers International until the Texas Medical Board ordered the suspension of his license and deeming him a “continuing threat to public welfare,” according to a Sept. 6 news release from the Justice Department.
He continued to evaluate and treat patients at mental health clinics and billed Medicaid for the services rendered. The indictment alleges he attempted to conceal his continued medical practice by using identities of other physicians and medical personnel.
Mendez’s sentencing is set for Oct. 2, according to KRGV.
