  1. Anesthesiologists reported an average income of $448,000 in 2023, up from a reported $405,000 in 2022.
  2. The average pay of anesthesiologists increased by 10 percent from 2022.
  3. Anesthesiologists reported receiving an average of $68,000 in incentive bonuses.
  4. Male anesthesiologists make an average of 10 percent more than their female counterparts, who make an average of $459,000 and $419,000, respectively.
  5. 32 percent of anesthesiologists reported non-physician practitioners, such as physician assistants, nurse practitioners and chiropractors, as the biggest competition affecting their compensation.
  6. Roughly one third of anesthesiologists reported taking on additional work both in and outside of the medical profession to supplement their income.
  7. 37 percent of anesthesiologists listed the COVID-19 pandemic as a cause for a decrease in compensation.
  8. Anesthesiologists make the most in outpatient care centers, with an average salary of $373,720.
  9. Anesthesiologists make the least in hospitals, with an average salary of $290,880.
  10. Anesthesiologists make an average of $311,030 in physician’s offices and $346,020 in specialty hospitals.
